DAGGERS boss John Still says there will always be a place for Anwar Uddin at Victoria Road, following his move to League Two side Barnet.

The towering defender moved to the north London side on a free transfer this week in search of first team football, ending his six-year spell in Dagenham.

During that time, Uddin captained their Conference winning side and made more than 200 appearances in Daggers colours.

"He's an absolute legend, a stalwart of the club. He had probably the biggest impact of anybody since I've been at this club," said Still.

"Unfortunately he spent quite a bit of time injured last season and we spoke to him about a new contract.

"But he wanted to explore other things to see what was possible and felt maybe it was the right thing to do to go to Barnet.

"He goes from this club with absolutely 100 per cent thanks yous from everyone involved, because whenever anyone looks back at what's happened at this club he will be paramount in their thoughts.

"There is always a place for an Anwar Uddin at this club, always.

"Anwar is always welcome back to this club in any capacity.

"I think he probably decided it was the right thing to do and once he decided that he went with our blessing.

"Did he want to leave? No he didn't. Did he think it was the right thing to do? Yes he did."

See next week's Post for a full interview with Uddin looking back on his time at Victoria Road.
