Barking Abbey Green Design Competition
THE DESIGNS for the Barking Abbey Green competition have been whittled down to six out of 45 – and here are the favourites to win.
Families can now inspect the shortlist and cast their votes on the POST’S website, but the final decision rests with a panel of judges.
The winner will be announced on November 18 and, with funding from Design for London, the council hope to turn the idea into reality.
Barking and Dagenham authority, The Architect’s Journal and Design for London invited architects from across the country to come up with a new vision for the Abbey Green.
Judges will be looking for a design that is sympathetic towards the site’s unique history.
Abbey Green contains the historic abbey ruins as well as the Curfew Tower and St Margaret’s Church.
English Heritage and St Margaret’s Church will both have representatives on the panel to help ensure its heritage is preserved.
There will also be a community consultation by the eventual winner.
