LIFE FOR EVIL PUB BOSS WHO HAD WIFE KILLED

11 May 2005
A womanising pub landlord who ordered the contract killing of his wife so he could use her money to start a new life abroad with his barmaid, is back in jail for life after being found guilty of murder in a retrial.

James Garside, 56, paid a hard-up hitman to stab wife Marilyn to death, hoping to use the cash he believed he would save from a divorce to start a jet ski business in Greece, the Old Bailey heard.

The couple ran a country pub in Suffolk - but in June, 2001 the pub was sold. A month later the pair split up.

After the separation, Garside, who has been involved in petty crime including vehicle theft for 40 years, didn't want to lose out on money in divorce proceedings and ordered the murder.
