Dagenham boy's gift for hero doctors

27 July 2010
A BRAVE little boy has thanked doctors at Great Ormond Street for removing his brain tumour by donating £50 to the hospital from his own pocket money.

Jake Pengelly, seven, underwent the major surgery when he was five and was later diagnosed with optical nerve glaucoma - a condition that affects his sight.

The youngster is still a patient at Great Ormond Street and will continue to undergo treatment there for his brain tumour, part of which was removed during the operation.

Brave Jake saved up his pocket money for months so he could make the generous donation to the world famous children's hospital at a fundraising disco in Dagenham.

Organised by Becontree Ladies Glade, the disco at Avenues Social Club, in Rush Green Road, Dagenham, raised £1,500 for Great Ormond Street, which included brave Jake's £50 contribution.
