Government statistics out today show 12.4 per cent of people were out of work in the east London borough, just behind Newham with 14.4 per cent, between April 2010 and March this year.

The figures show that 10,300 people on average - or 12.4 per cent of the population - were unemployed in Barking and Dagenham.

  • I can well understand the figures as the education system in the borough is one of the worst nationwide and numeracy and literacy statistics are amongst the worst in the country. It also seems that even working people are unaware of even simple geography as your reporter states that it is an East London Borough when in fact it is in Essex, as indeed is the London Borough of Havering and you cannot describe that as East London.
