The youngsters, all residents of assisted living accommodation The Foyer in Barking town centre, spoke with employment and training agencies to find out about the opportunities available in the area.

They also took part in life skills taster sessions around healthy eating, sexual health and keeping fit with kick boxing and aerobics sessions.

Community groups based at Starting Point, a local start up business centre, were on-hand to give advice on how to set up your own social business through the service.

Foyer resident Tasharn, 21, said: “I used today’s event to set up my own stall and to get my music out there and network.

“It has allowed me not only to learn about the help and support available to me but it’s helped me build my confidence in getting my work out there and hopefully getting help in taking my business to the next level.”

Barking Foyer, one of the six foyers run by East Thames, provides accommodation and support for young people aged 16-24 at risk of becoming homeless. Foyer residents get a programme of support and access to employment and training opportunities.
