Richard Goodwin, 41, is chief inspector of community, partnership, media and performance. His role includes ensuring police and other agencies talk together to help crime victims. He has three children and enjoys hill walking

Before joining this bor-ough, I worked on central decision-making policing units in London and was the partnership policing lead at Bexley borough.
The diversity of my job makes every day a challenge.
By working closely with other agencies within the borough we can make a real difference for victims of crime and vulnerable mem-bers of the community.
Confidence
In years gone by, separate agencies didn’t communicate, but joint working and information sharing is now key to ensuring the commu-nity safety partnership deliver improved confidence and reassurance to the people of Barking and Dagenham. My role includes a long list of responsibilities, but thr-ough the public, my officers, ward panel meetings, and the community police engagement group, we identify issues within the community and ensure that all partnership resources pull together to formulate the most effective and long term solution.
And then I make sure that the public know about it.
It is a broad and busy role but I am consistently enthused by the public response at meetings or in conversations where the members of the community are passionate about living and working Barking and Dagenham and help us in keeping it a safe place to live and work.
A man is fighting for his life today after a suspected street fight in Dagenham.
