The singer, who first found fame on ITV’s Pop Idol in 2002 and last year released his fifth album, Echoes, finished the 2011 London Marathon in a time of four hours and two minutes.

He said: “I am very pleased and excited to be running the marathon again for Catch22. It was such an amazing experience last time and it is a privilege if I can again do something to highlight the need for us to invest in young people in the UK.”

The Exeter politics graduate added: “Last year my official time was 4:02, I want to beat that this year. I hope this time to finish it without throwing up.”

Catch22 works with young people to get them into safe housing, out of crime or into education or training.
